State-based Robotics Camps and After School Programs

Robotics Camps STEM ProgramsIn today’s world, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects are more important than ever for a child’s future success. Building and programming robots applies all of the STEM subjects which is ideal and why most STEM summer camps and after school programs use fun robotics as part of their curriculum. Ros camps are fantastic for kids because they are designed for kids to learn by doing. Kids will work in teams creating robots and will learn engineering and programming without even knowing they are learning. That is what is so great about hands-on learning, it is more natural than sitting at a desk listening to a teacher. Different robotics camps use different robotics systems. The two most popular platforms are LEGO Mindstorms. Younger kids may use LEGO WeDo.

To find robotics camps or after school programs near you, please refer to the state-based listing of programs below. The robotics programs list is a subset of the STEM programs list. To find programs with broader STEM subjects beyond robotics, please refer to our State-based STEM Camps and After School Programs. We are continuously updating and adding more robotics programs. I recommend bookmarking the site for easy reference.

The programs offered may change so please contact the organization for the most current information.  Besides the specific list for your state we suggest that you also consider the following options as well:

  • Robotics Competition Organizations: major robotics competition organizations often provide non-competition programs for kids as well.
  • YMCA: Many YMCA branches across the country offer robotics summer camps.
  • City Recreation Centers: Many city recreation centers have robotics summer camps for kids.
  • Science Museums and Children’s Museums: Youth robotics summer camps are frequently offered by celebrated museums such as the American Museum of Natural History in New York City and The Tech Museum of Innovation in Silicon Valley, CA, just to name a few. There are also opportunities for interactive robotics experiences at some children’s museums. This past summer, my 5 year old son had a blast programming Dash & Dot Robots from Wonder Workshop at the Children’s Creativity Museum in San Francisco.
  • Universities and Colleges: During the summer quite a few local universities and colleges offer robotics programs. Some residential camps even offer the opportunities for kids to live on the campus like college students.
  • Robotics Residential Camps: Each summer, many kids travel across the country to have great experiences attending premium robotics residential camps in another state.
